2012 Summer Intern Program FAQs
1. What is the DTE Energy summer Intern program?
a. The DTE energy summer intern program is one channel supporting our overall DTE Energy strategic talent management initiative. The program is made up of freshman to senior students from accredited colleges and universities that are pursuing bachelor’s degrees. It is an opportunity to expose interested students to the energy industry by providing paid summer employment opportunities.
2. Who is eligible for the summer intern program?
a. Students from freshman to senior level pursing a bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 2.5 GPA. A copy of the student’s official transcript showing this information MUST BE received and verified in order for the student to be eligible.
3. Can a student who is graduating from high school this year apply and be eligible for the summer intern program?
a. Yes, but they must be age 18 by April 1, 2012 and able to provide an acceptance letter from an accredited college or university.
4. Can a student who is graduating from college this year apply and be eligible for the summer intern program?
a. Yes, if they will be attending full-time graduate school in the 2012 fall semester and can provide a graduate school acceptance letter to an accredited college or university.
5. How do students apply?
a. Students who would like to be considered for the program must go to the DTE Energy website at www.dteenergy.com starting February 13 –February 27 and under the careers section follow the instructions to apply for the Summer Intern position(s)
6. Who can request a summer intern?
a. Any hiring leader who has the approved budget and proper senior level executive approval to hire.
7. How do I request a summer student?
a. Hiring leader must follow the guidelines and obtain the proper executive level approval to hire which includes following the chain of command to receive proper VP and executive approval. Once this has been done, a Summer Student Employment Requisition eForm (http://quest.dteco.com/eforms/summerStudentEmpReq.html) can be completed and submitted.
8. When do the summer interns start?
a. The start dates for summer interns are: May 14, May 29, June 11 and June 25. Once an intern is matched to your requisition, you will be notified of the intern’s start date
9. How are applicants and requisitions matched up?
a. Requisitions are matched to students according to the duties of the requisition and the student’s background and discipline. Consideration is also given to recommended students from the requisition and to returning students recommended as a rehire.
10. Do hiring leaders interview? Can they interview if they want to?
a. Yes. Interviews can be conducted at the hiring leader’s discretion but must follow the Targeted Selection guidelines. No panel is required, however
11. If you have several candidates for each requisition, how is it determined which applicant is assigned to the req?
a. Via interviews and/or the screening process, reviewing such information as the student’s work experience, grade point average and discipline.
12. Are applicants advised if they were not selected?
a. Yes. Applicants are sent notifications after all hiring has been completed
